E-Environment (DM4): Teacher candidates can create physically and emotionally safe classroom environments that encourage active learning, self-motivation, and cooperative interaction among students (TEAC Q. 1.2, 1.3; ITASC 5)
Rational: During the Summer of 2010 in my EDUC 3110 Educational Psychology class I wrote this paper discussing and itemizing what a teacher needs to do create a caring and supportive classroom environment that is self-motivating and provides positive social interactions among students. This artifact provides evidence of my capability to create a classroom environment in which classroom rules, procedures, classroom arrangement and routines will encourage active learning and a safe caring environment.
Rational: In my EDUC 3110 I was able to do a case study on feelings and motivation dealing with the question of why do students get embarrassed at school and what role does self-esteem have with learning.
The essay I wrote covers what I learned from this case study. This artifact provides evidence of my sensitivity to a student's vulnerability to public humiliation and the need to see that communication in the classroom are positive messages among the students. This artifact affirms my belief that active learning can only take place in a caring and safe environment.
