S-Subject Matter

S-Subject Matter (DM3): Teacher candidates have a strong knowledge of the subject matter they will teach and can facilitate the acquisition of that knowledge in their students (TEAC Q.1.1; INTASC 1).

Rational: This artifact is a writing project that I did in my English 4500 Teaching Writing class.  The  writing sample includes prose and poetry and provides evidence of my ability to write and teach the art of writing to students. Writing is thinking on paper. The diversity of my writing samples show that I have the ability to think and express myself in many different forms and venues.  I believe with the background, experience and love for the subject of writing that I will be an excellent English teacher that can facilitate the acquisition of knowledge of grammar, writing, and literature.


Subject Matter 1

Rational: This artifact is a year long unit study on Mythology. Greek and Roman mythology is an essential basic subject matter that student need in order to understand many literary allusion. To understand human nature and the evolution of ancient to modern thinking, students need to have a foundation in mythology.The diversity unit samples show that I have the ability to teach this subject matter. I believe with the background, experience and love that I have for literature that I will be an excellent English teacher that can facilitate the acquisition of knowledge through literature.
